Who owns BlackLeaf and how it is paid for — because a reader weighing what we publish is entitled to know who stands behind it and whether anyone's money shapes it.

Ownership

BlackLeaf is an independent publication, owned and operated by its founding editor. It is not owned or controlled by any political party, government body, campaign, or corporate interest.

How it's funded

BlackLeaf is supported primarily by reader memberships. We do not run advertising, and we accept no funding from political or government sources. We do not sell coverage; no funding relationship influences what we report or how. Any material funding source — grants, sponsorships, major donations — will be disclosed on this page if and when it exists.

Technology

BlackLeaf's articles are produced using Anthropic's Claude models. That is a vendor relationship for the tooling that drafts the work under our method — it is not an ownership stake, a funding source, or editorial control. Accountability for everything published rests with our editor, as described in the AI & accountability policy.

Structure

BlackLeaf is currently operated as an independent for-profit publication. Whether to adopt a nonprofit or public-benefit structure is under active consideration; any change to ownership or governance that affects our independence will be disclosed here.
